The Meeting of the Matriarchs Foundation was born from a deeply personal and traumatic experience marked by unimaginable loss, heartbreak, and the realization of how important compassion and community support are during life's most difficult moments.

My daughter had become estranged from our family. For a year and a half, we had no idea she was living alone in St. Louis.

Then came the devastating phone call that changed our lives forever. My granddaughter, just twenty months old, had passed away. My three year old grandchild was hospitalized, and my daughter was incarcerated.

Later, we learned that my daughter needed help but was afraid to reach out. She wanted to handle everything on her own.

Through this painful experience, the vision for the Meeting of the Matriarchs Foundation was born. I wanted to create a sisterhood where young mothers, fathers, children, women of every generation, and our elders would have someone to turn to during difficult times.

We are a sisterhood of matriarchs who believe in showing up for one another. We make house calls, sit with women in hospitals as they welcome their babies, and stand beside women in courtrooms as they fight to reunite with their children.

We all need someone to lean on.  I often wonder whether my daughter would have reached out if a foundation like ours had existed in her city.

Today, my granddaughter's memory continues to inspire our mission of compassion, connection, and support for those who need someone to stand beside them.
